When Taylors Snacks wanted to grab the attention of retail buyers, we cranked up the volume on crunch and composed something totally unexpected.
After a successful rebrand and rename, Taylors Snacks needed to start the conversation with the big supermarkets in a bid to get on those all-important shelves down south. A few bags of free crisps alone just wouldn’t cut it in the cut-throat battle for the aisles.
But one thing that made Taylors stand out from the packs was their signature, thick-cut crunch.
In order to stimulate as many senses as possible, the usual samples and stats were accompanied by a tasty vinyl record, filled with crunchy-fied tracks, all produced from the real-life crunches and munches of their crisps and snacks.
In the quest for full authenticity, the team, along with our enthusiastic client, took to the recording booth armed with Taylors crisps, popcorn and lentil waves and crunched until hearts were content and crumbs were aplenty. Flavour-fied and texture-fied tracks played on iconic tracks with the crunches layered to create our own versions of the tunes. The sleeve also reflected Taylors cheeky personality with a nod to an iconic album cover and lots of attention to detail.
We created and pressed 25 limited edition records, with sleeve variations tailored to individual supermarket brands. It was a smash hit in the buyer offices, and a world-first for crunchy records (probably).
In the busy land of buyer engagement, where things land on desks every day and feedback is rare and not really encouraged by departments, Taylors received glowing feedback from the record recipients.
“We LOVED this. Took it home for the family to see it – and we ended up playing a game to guess each of the crunchy song titles!” Category Buying Manager, Major UK Supermarket Chain
But most importantly, the first release started conversations with 2 major UK retailers about getting on shelves across the UK. Not bad for a little family-run crisp business from Errol with a dream.
