Despite boasting the largest selection of Japanese whiskies available anywhere online, dekanta wasn’t showing up in search results the way it should have been.
Too much of their website traffic was coming from people who already knew them, rather than new customers, which was diluting brand awareness and impacting growth. They weren’t appearing consistently for the valuable, high-volume searches that drive sales.
Our aim was clear: get dekanta to the top of relevant search results where they belong.
To correct dekanta’s search performance, the first thing we had to tackle was keyword targeting. Despite their expansive, high-quality collections, including popular distilleries like Hibiki and sub-categories like single malt, the copy they were using in search results didn’t boast the scope of their offering and was not aligned with the way that people search online.
We audited dekanta’s impressive collections and mapped all of their priority pages to the relevant searches that they should be ranking for.
But dekanta deserved more than to just be indexed for the right searches. With the largest and most varied collections of Japanese whiskies across so many categories, they deserved be one of the first results for those searches.
The copy in search results and on the pages had to really hammer home the size and quality of dekanta’s selection. With this in mind, we rewrote all of their search copy across a vast number of pages to highlight why customers should choose dekanta over competing search results.
As well as this, we identified a need for specific collection pages. With more than 1000 unique bottlings of Japanese whisky available on their site, dekanta has significant groupings in areas like bourbon cask, single malt and more – each of which have their own independent search demand.
But without dedicated pages for these bottlings, dekanta weren’t being found by the people looking for them. So, we outlined which new collection pages they needed to create to not just show up but stand out.
To say that this work had a positive impact would be a dramatic understatement. Between partnering with Lane for SEO in April and the end of the year, Dekanta’s 1st page search rankings grew 220% – and a whopping 605% for their Collections pages!
This led to a 317% growth in organic traffic to those pages and, most importantly, a 511% increase in monthly revenue from organic search from the beginning of the year – a dram-worthy result if we’ve ever seen one.
This rapid and significant growth in search rankings and revenue demonstrates something that is true of a lot of brands – those who should be at the top of search results based on the quality of their offering, but aren’t, just need the right search optimisation to get them there.
